For Westerners, 7 is the lucky number.  For Asians, the number 8 holds great power and luck which is why the Olympics began today on 08/08/08 at 8:08:08.  Along with the rest of the world, I watch as China steps out as a workd power and presents an amazing show.  I anticipate a great Olympics which will take the world's premiere athletes across the vastness of China.

Although I have many gripes about China ranging from their care of the environment to human rights issues, the Olympics make it easy to look past those for a few weeks and watch the best of the best competing in their once-in-a-lifetime shot at greatness.  For me, it's not so much about the sporting events as it is being inspired by people who have trained their entire lives for this moment.  These people are at the peak of their physical, mental and spiritual games and should be an inspiration to each of us.

I will be bolted to my television over the next few weeks watching, learning and being inspired....and when it's all done, I'll go back to complaining about the bad stuff.
